HERO Class Syllabus for 2010-2011

Course Description:

This is a general introduction to music covering a broad spectrum of topics. Students will learn basic notation and rhythms and be able to read in the treble clef. Instruments used will include glockenspiels, tone chimes, boom whackers and various percussion instruments. Students will learn to sing simple canons and rounds at this level. Music history, music cultures and orchestral instruments will also be explored in this class.

Supplies needed for this course:

Students will need a folder dedicated to this class, plain paper, a pencil and colored pencils each week.

Grading Information:

Students will be graded on three things: homework assignments, quizzes, and their attendance and participation in class. Each of these items will represent one-third of their final grade.

Grading Scale: Students will be give a percentage grade.

Guidelines for Success:

  • Class participation: Students will demonstrate participation by answering questions, participating in music listening/performing and completing class work.
  • Class attendance: Students will demonstrate attendance by being on-time for class and by being prepared for class with materials ready.
  • Written assignments: Students will complete various worksheets/performance assignments in class and at home.
